School Uniform Expectations

Our expectations are that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos. Our policy is based on the belief that a school uniform:

• Promotes a sense of pride in our school
• Engenders a feeling of belonging
• Is practical and distinctive
• Identifies the children with the school
• Is not distracting in class
• Makes children feel equal to one another in terms of appearance
• Reflects the sense both of community and of diversity that our school takes pride in

Our uniform policy offers a choice and is a flexible dress code enabling pupils the choice of approved items of uniform; which will not be discriminatory on the basis of gender reassignment. Gender-neutral pupils can make choice of clothes to wear and transgender pupils have the right to dress in a manner consistent with their gender identity.

Uniform	White blouse/shirt or white polo shirt Red sweatshirt with school logo (OPTIONAL)  or red jumper or cardigan Grey or black trousers / shorts/ skirt / pinafore / or red checked gingham dress for summer, White, grey or black socks Plain tights may be worn Black shoes should be low, black flat heeled for safety and fasten securely. Shoes should always be full (no sandals).
PE/GAMES	Indoor: White and red T-shirt or polo shirt Plain black shorts (with no brands) Change of socks Plimsolls / pumps Outdoor White / red T-shirt or polo shirt Plain black shorts or jogging trousers Trainers Tracksuits may be worn at appropriate times KS2 Swimming Swimming trunks or a one-piece costume should be worn Swimming caps will be worn by all children with hair longer than shoulder length. Items should be named in a waterproof bag.

Hair Boys and girl’s hair which is below the collar line must be tied back at all times. It is to be of an appropriate colour and style. Hair bands and scrunchies should be either white, black, grey, or red. Jewellery and Head wear On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery to school. We do not allow headwear to be worn during class time or inside the school building, except for religious or medical reasons. Summer hats are encouraged for outside playtimes during the summer. Make up, Nail Vanish and temporary tattoos Children are not permitted to wear make-up, nail varnish and nail extensions or temporary tattoos.

All clothing should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. This is especially important, as uniform items look similar and can easily be confused for another child’s. Our school cannot accept responsibility for any lost items.

Non-Compliance

Opportunities to rectify uniform will be provided, however teachers can discipline pupils for breaching the school’s rules on appearance or uniform if flouted.

Role of the class Teachers and Support Staff

• To set a good example in terms of dress
• To monitor uniform compliance and remind children of uniform expectations
• To speak to children who do not wear the correct uniform, encourage compliance and provide opportunity for alterations to be made.
• To speak to parents of children who, after being spoken to do not have the correct uniform/appearance
• To refer to senior leaders if changes are not occurring and;
• To discipline children if, after discussion with parents and opportunity, they still do not have the appropriate appearance / uniform.

Role of the Senior leadership team

• To set a good example in terms of dress
• To enforce the school uniform throughout the school community, as part of the duty within maintenance of day to day discipline in the school.
• To monitor uniform compliance and remind children of uniform expectation.
• To ensure that pupils comply with the uniform policy agreed by the governing body,
• Speak to the parents of children who persistently do not wear the correct uniform
• Follow the DfE guidelines

Role of the Parents/Guardians

• To ensure that their child/children adhere to the school’s uniform policy,
• Ensure that they come to school in uniform everyday unless there are special circumstances such as non-uniform days.
• To ensure in the event of noncompliance, contact is made with school to explain why,
• To ensure that all uniform is labelled correctly and clearly.
